The Old Age Security (OAS) Pension is a vital program for Canadian seniors, providing monthly financial support to maintain quality of life after retirement. In 2025, understanding the amounts and eligibility criteria remains essential to make the most of your benefits. Learn how the OAS, Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), and Allowance work, and how to access them.
Old Age Security (OAS) Pension Amounts
The maximum monthly OAS pension amounts for 2025 are determined based on your age and annual net income.
- If you are between 65 and 74 years old, you could receive up to $727.67 per month, provided your annual net income is less than $148,451.
- For individuals aged 75 and older, the maximum amount increases to $800.44 per month, if your net income is below $154,196.
You can estimate your personal benefits directly using the calculator available on the government website.
Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)
The Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) provides additional benefits for low-income Canadians. Maximum amounts depend on your family situation:
- If you are single, widowed, or divorced, you could receive up to $1,086.88 per month, if your annual net income is less than $22,056.
- If you have a spouse or common-law partner who also receives OAS, the maximum amount is $654.23 per month, and your combined annual income must be below $29,136.
- If your spouse receives the allowance or does not receive OAS, the maximum remains at $1,086.88 per month, provided your combined income is less than $52,848.

Allowance (Ages 60 to 64)
Spouses or common-law partners of OAS and GIS recipients may be eligible for the allowance, intended for individuals aged 60 to 64 years.
- If your combined income is below $40,800, you could receive up to $1,381.90 per month.
- In the event of the death of your spouse, you may be eligible for the Survivor's Allowance. If your annual income is below $29,712, the maximum monthly amount is $1,647.34.
